Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme has choice words for bands that refuse to play their hits

Fans of American rock band Queens of the Stone Age won’t ever have to worry about the band not playing their hit songs like “No One Knows” and “Mosquito Song” at their concerts — in fact, QOSA frontman Josh Homme thinks that bands that refuse to play their hits are… well, maybe we better quote him on this one.

“When there’s bands that don’t want to play their big song or their big songs, I always think it’s a little c—- to do that. Acting like a song that a lot of people like is a burden is just a strange reaction to the gift that your fans have given you,” Homme explained on Tuna on Toast with Stryker podcast.

While Homme can sympathize with bands building a sense of fatigue from overplaying the songs which made them popular in the first place or eclipsing newer or lesser known songs that they’re also trying to add to their repertoire at concerts, he doesn’t think those are good enough reasons to disappoint fans who are paying good money to see them play.

“In the years of doing this, I’ve seen a lot of artists do that โ€” at times they sort of get angry at their own music for doing well, for creating this world,” he continued. “Having fans is a cool thing. And they want stuff.”

Homme added, “That’s why this is happening, right? You guys are all here because you want to hear some stuff and also have no idea what’s going to happen. And you need to have that basic food group in order for me to surprise you, too. Surprise requires knowing some constants are going to happen. So I don’t sweat stuff like that. Why would I not play ‘No One Knows’?”

Queens of the Stone Age are currently in the middle of a tour coinciding with their new “In Times New Roman” album but have had to cancel recent performances due to Homme returning to the United States for “emergency surgery.”

QOSA posted news about the cancellations on Twitter/X, stating, โ€œDue to continued medical care, it is under doctorsโ€™ orders that Josh Homme remain in their care in the United States. The Homme family and QOTSA are so grateful for the outpouring of well wishes and kind understanding during this time.โ€

We here at MusicHyped wish Homme a speedy recovery during this time period.
