These days Snoop Dogg is nearly as well known for his weed smoking antics as he is for being one of the most successful rappers of all time and a recent anecdote from singer Ed Sheeran further substantiates that description. On the most recent episode of the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast, the Grammy-award-winning “Beautiful People” and “Bad Habits” singer recounts a weed smoking session with Snoop after a concert backstage.
“I don’t really smoke at all,” explained Sheeran, who noted that getting high with Snoop Dogg was a venture that seemed like an inevitability and something to cross off his bucket list when hanging with the 51-year-old hip hop legend. “I was in the dressing room and they’re just [smoking] blunt for blunt for blunt for blunt, and I’m like, I guess at some point during the night I have to, just to be like, ‘I smoked with Snoop Dogg.’”
“He was like, ‘Do you want some?’ and I was like, ‘Now’s the time.’ We were having a good conversation.”
Sheeran took him up on the offer and soon, after a bout of enjoyable conversation, Sheeran recalls getting so high trying to keep up with Snoop that he couldn’t see straight.
“We’d had a good amount of conversation, so I have a bit, and I’m like, ‘I don’t feel too bad, this is good,’” Sheeran said. “So I have a bit more, I have a bit more, I have a bit more.” As the audience groaned in recognition of such a pitfall, Sheeran chuckled and said, “Oh my god, I just remember looking at him and being like, ‘I can’t see right now!’”
O’Brien shared his own story of getting high with Snoop Dogg, though his story of getting stoned was far less intentional. O’Brien recalled Snoop and his entourage hot-boxing their backstage dressing room during an appearance on Late Night during the 90s. According to Conan, the amount of weed that Snoop and his crew smoked backstage was so profuse that both he and the audience were becoming contact high as a result.
“The crowd was laughing at the the set-ups to the joke,” O’Brien said. “The crowd was getting like high. You could smell it. And we were like, ‘This is wrong on so many levels — it was bring your infant day,’” O’Brien added. “But what are you gonna do? Everyone understands: that’s Snoop Dogg.”
